The Standard Hotel on the High Line
Tuesday, February 23rd, 2010The New York Standard opened in Manhattan’s Meatpacking District in 2009. It is noted for its modernist design reminiscent of Le Corbusier and for its span across the High Line, an elevated railroad track on Manhattan’s West Side. Its accompanying restaurant, Standard Grill, opened in June 2009 and serves American cuisine. When first opened, controversy arose as guests of the hotel would expose themselves to passersby on the High Line, often with the tacit approval and encouragement of the hotel’s management.
